COMMISSIONS PAID TO THE AGENTS INVOLVED IN THE TRANSACTION
A real estate transaction is based on commissions where in the past the agent representing the property owner would take on a listing for 6% based on the needs of the client. The agent representing the brokerage, upon taking the listing and working his/her magic on marketing and advertising the home, would split the commission with the Buyer's agent 50/50. Considering, commissions paid to either agent has always been negotiable, an agent with consent to dual agency representation (where they represent both parties in the sale of the property) was able to adjust commissions as agreed to between the parties. It's much different today as the Seller and Buyer each compensate their agent as negotiated within the transaction. On average, expect to pay a 3% to your representative agent and 2% on the purchase of a new home.
